In August 2005, 17 students from Castleton State College, Champlain College, the Community College of Vermont, Saint Michael’s College and the University of Vermont traveled to Greece with Wisdom Tours on a Castleton State College Study Abroad Program. On this program students studied art history and made site specific sculptures on the Island of Samos with professors Catherine Hall and Shelley Warren.

Students were equipped with only a sculptor’s supply kit. The criteria for the sculpture assignments were to use only materials they found on the beach. After the completion and documentation of each project all materials were recycled back into the environment. During their 10 day stay on the island each student created 3 large scale site specific sculptures. The sculptures were inspired by the pristine natural beauty of this Aegean island and the ancient Samian culture.

On February 1 – March 3, 2006 at the Flynndog Gallery students will be recreating 4 site specific sculptures made on the island of Samos. There will also be a photo display documenting many of their large scale sculpture projects.
